FOSCA BioTech is developing an implantable medical device for glioblastoma, designed to remove a broad range of cancer-promoting molecules from the tumour microenvironment at the same time. Validated in vitro, currently in pre-clinical testing.

The problem
Cancer fuels its own growth and escapes the patient's immune system by releasing hundreds of molecular signals in its surrounding fluid, creating the so-called tumour microenvironment. Current single-target therapies block one pathway and leave the others open. The tumour keeps evading the immune system, and resistance follows.
Our solution
FOSCA has developed a device designed to target many of these components at once. It is a miniature probe implanted directly in the tumour, designed to extract the soluble components of the local microenvironment.
How it works
A mechanical approach to a problem that single-target drugs cannot resolve on their own.
01
The FOSCA device is a miniature probe that is implanted directly in the tumour and is designed to extract the soluble components of the local microenvironment. To prevent the tumour from quickly recreating its microenvironment, our probe can stay in place and function continuously over periods of several weeks once inserted.
02
By removing a broad range of soluble cancer-promoting molecules and microvesicles at the same time, rather than blocking a single pathway, our probe is designed to act on the tumour in several ways. The aim is to slow tumour growth, reduce invasiveness and metastasis, and allow the immune system to regain access. Because immunosuppressive molecules are also removed, the immune system may then be able to recognise and attack the tumour.
03
Our probe extracts the tumour microenvironment without any drug or synthetic molecule, relying instead on chemo-physical mechanisms. It is designed to function continuously over several weeks, with the aim of giving the immune system time to regain access to the tumour and mount a response against it.
